Tiny bundle of Joy-Tayvia

May 30, 2011

This shoot was a real joy, but also a little unexpected. I had originally arranged to shoot Leoni’s portraits proudly showing her bump with partner Nathan. But the day before the shoot I received a phone call saying, “I’m so sorry, but I am going to have to reschedule our portrait shoot, I’m in hospital, I’ve just given birth”! Wow, this is great news but also a little unexpected as she had ‘popped’ about 4 weeks early. Well, in a way it wasn’t a problem at all as I was hoping to do a new born shoot. I have photographed literally thousands of babies and toddlers but strangely never a new born.

Gorgeous little Tayvia was a pleasure to work with, not least because her well organised mum had just fed her a short while before I arrived. She just slept the whole way through the shoot and hardly stirred at all.

There will be a few more images from this shoot posted later in the week.

Kay Adams – fitness instructor

May 22, 2011

I love it when I get asked to do a shoot that is a little different. Kay is a fitness instructor and specialises in aqua aerobics. We met up for our pre shoot consultation at a garden centre cafe near Gailey in Staffordshire. Kay works at Esporta in Wolverhampton and asked if we could do some shots there in the gym and pool. Ok, I’m liking it so far. Almost immediately, I could see a few ideas in my head, I was getting quite excited until she dropped the bombshell!

“I think I can get permission to use the gym, but we would have to do the shoot before the club opens. Does 5.30am on Sunday morning sound ok” Yikes!

I knew there’d be a catch somewhere, but hey, what the hell, for a mere portrait photographer an oportunity like this doesn’t pop up very often. It was surprising how the time flew by, before we knew it the club had opened and we were suddenly confronted by people stepping over us to use the pool!

It was well worth the effort and here a just a few from that session.

Richard & Ingrid

May 21, 2011

The weather was not kind to us – it looked bleak when I set off. I had arranged to meet Richard and Ingrid in Birmingham city centre at Brindley Place. The plan was an urban style portrait shoot. It started to rain as I arrived and got steadily worse. Now I am not one for letting a simple thing like a little rain get in the way of a shoot. I suppose the story would be different if it was howling down with horizontal rain, but as it was it was a warm Saturday morning and the rain didn’t really pose a problem. That’s one of the great things about shooting in this location, there are lots of covered areas just perfect for a shoot like this. I must admit, I did get a little wet for some of the shots, but I tried my best to keep my lovely models dry.

In spite of the weather, the day went very well, we got some great images, it was a lot of fun shooting this session and on the whole I think everyone enjoyed the whole experience.

Richard and Ingrid made great subjects, it was a special day for them and I am really pleased with the end result. Hope you like them too.

Jason & Laura (engaged)

May 14, 2011

Are you in the throws of planning your wedding? If you haven’t yet booked your photographer, then consider this….

It’s hard to find the right photographer these days, especially without any recommendations. With all the weekend shooters working for super low prices it can seem like a great deal, until you get the photos back. I have lost count of the sad stories of devastated couples who have been disappointed by their photos.

Before you make your decision, please allow me to shoot a complimentary engagement portrait shoot for you. We’ll get some great shots of you both, on location of course, (there would be no point in a studio session as this isn’t really a good comparison). Then, if you like what you see and we all ‘gel’ together (most important), you can then make your decision. There’s no obligation, there’s nothing to loose and, if you still feel you’d rather not book me for your wedding then I won’t be offended, honest! You’ll still have a great set of photos.

This is Jason and Laura, their engagement session was shot at Brindley Place, Birmingham. I realised I hadn’t posted any images from this shoot, they were taken last summer before the new website was designed.
